coimbatore police establish integrated Master command and control centre…

In a major step towards technology-driven policing and integrated public safety management, the Coimbatore District Police have established a state-of-the-art Master Command and Control Centre (MCCC) at the District Police Office here.

The facility, inaugurated recently, has been designed as the central operational hub for surveillance, emergency response, cyber monitoring, disaster coordination, and law and order management across the district.

Spread over 3,000 sq. ft. on the fourth floor of the District Police Office building, the centre functions round the clock with advanced technological infrastructure, including a central LED video wall measuring 26 ft. by 8 ft. and two additional LED walls measuring 10 ft. by 8 ft. each.

Police officials said the MCCC integrates multiple policing and communication systems under a single platform to facilitate real-time monitoring and rapid response. The district shares its border with Kerala and has 13 State Border Check Posts and 11 District Border Check Posts, several of which are located in reserve forest areas vulnerable to illegal transportation and occasional Maoist-related movement.

The surveillance network includes 28 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and 34 CCTV cameras installed at State Border Check Posts, besides 8 ANPR cameras and 26 CCTV cameras at District Border Check Posts. More than 1,500 CCTV cameras installed across Pollachi, Valparai, Anaimalai, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karamadai, Sulur and other locations have also been integrated into the system.

Further, all 40 police stations in the district have been equipped with CCTV cameras integrated with two-way communication systems for real-time supervision.

Officials said the centre houses several specialised operational desks, including Smart Surveillance, Emergency Response Monitoring, Social Media Monitoring, Women and Child Safety, Cyber Crime, Road Safety, Predictive Policing, Disaster Management, and Technical Support units.

The Social Media Monitoring Desk will track rumours, misinformation, communal tension, and law and order-related developments on digital platforms, while the Cyber Crime Desk will monitor online frauds and cyber offences. Dedicated desks have also been established to monitor women and child safety issues, anti-drug enforcement activities under the Drug-Free Tamil Nadu initiative, and court-related proceedings.

The MCCC has also integrated citizen-centric initiatives such as the “Kovai DIGI-COP” WhatsApp chatbot and the “Kaval Udhavi App” to improve public accessibility to police services.

According to officials, GPS-based fleet monitoring systems, Dial-100 emergency response mechanisms, VHF communication systems, Smart Kavalar applications, and predictive policing tools have been incorporated into the platform to ensure better coordination and faster deployment of police personnel.

The centre is also expected to play a key role during natural disasters, heavy rainfall, accidents, and emergency situations by coordinating with the district administration and disaster management authorities.

Police officials described the MCCC as a significant initiative aimed at strengthening transparent, citizen-friendly, and efficient policing services in Coimbatore district.
